Overview

The school has developed school-based teaching materials based on the Learning Framework, comprising 33 units spanning Forms 1 to 6, divided into three stages. Project-based tasks are incorporated to assess unit learning outcomes and guide students' thinking.

Three-Stage Curriculum

Stage 1

Foundation teaching with a focus on vocabulary and sentence mastery, building students' character recognition.

Stage 2

IGCSE preparation, helping students become familiar with the content and format of the IGCSE examination.

Stage 3

A bridging stage focused on enhancing students' interest in learning and career orientation. Project-based tasks are incorporated to assess learning outcomes and guide critical thinking.

Students watch a film about Mid-Autumn Festival stories, then answer questions.

Students use AI to generate images of a Mid-Autumn night market, then describe the picture in their own words.

Festival Booths

Booth activities include snowskin mooncake making, shadow puppets, grass grasshopper weaving, Hou Yi archery, and lantern riddles — tasting traditional snacks and learning about ancient Chinese entertainment and customs.

These activities deepen students' understanding of traditional Chinese festivals, showing them that Chinese cultural knowledge can be lively and engaging — imagining the entertainment of people in ancient times inspires motivation to learn more about Chinese culture.

Fai Chun Calligraphy

Under teacher guidance, students write auspicious wishes in ink on red paper — from the character 「福」to classic phrases — experiencing the beauty of Chinese character structure and the elegance of calligraphy.

Pinwheel Crafting

Students use coloured paper, bamboo sticks and other materials to craft pinwheels symbolising good fortune turning.

Inter-class New Year Quiz

Class-based cultural quiz covering the origins of New Year customs, zodiac stories and the symbolism of festive foods — using team competition to inspire deeper independent exploration of Chinese culture.

These activities not only strengthen hands-on practice and teamwork, but transform festive rituals into real-life learning moments — letting traditional culture flow naturally through pen, fingertips and speech, taking root in students' formative memories.

Activities

⌨️Typeduck Jyutping Typing Contest

Promoting the Typeduck Jyutping typing programme through competition, helping NCS students learn Chinese and develop self-learning ability.

🔤Word Chain Game

Through this competition, students become more familiar with the pronunciation and meaning of Chinese vocabulary, apply their knowledge flexibly, and develop greater interest in learning Chinese.
