Subject Overview
Tourism and hospitality is one of the four pillar industries of Hong Kong's economy and makes significant contributions to the local economy. The Tourism and Hospitality Studies subject provides students with a solid foundation of industry knowledge, equipping them to cope with the new socio-economic environment. The curriculum is designed for senior secondary students who are interested in the industry, helping them develop generic skills such as communication, problem-solving, and decision-making.
The content of the subject integrates local and international trends to explore the impact of tourism on the society, economy, and environment, while fostering students' professional ethics and service culture. The subject also complements students' learning in other disciplines; for example, through topics on sustainable development, students can better understand social responsibility.
Upon completing the three-year curriculum, students may pursue further studies in areas such as tourism management, heritage conservation, or environmental studies, or they may enter related industries including hotels, travel agencies, and tourist attractions. Different from Applied Learning courses, this subject does not focus on practical skills training but instead provides a comprehensive foundation of industry knowledge.
Our school also offers students diverse learning experiences to enhance their understanding of the tourism and hospitality industry. These include visits to local hotels, tours of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the organisation of various study tours to broaden students' international perspectives. Through these experiences, students can gain first-hand insight into the operations of the tourism and hospitality industry in different regions, and integrate classroom learning with practical application, thereby enhancing their overall learning effectiveness.
